Diptych, each 24″ x 24″

This is part of a series of photos of my baby blanket taken using a self-destructive Polaroid film, which faded to black over the course of 24 hours. After spitting out 16 exposures, I scanned them repeatedly for 24 hours. Then, selecting images, I used traditional materials involved in preservation in order to retroactively fix the images. This pairing was plucked from a sequence of over 60 scans of the same exposure.

The compulsive process of saving these images from dissolution echoes yet warps the life of the baby blanket, which is undergoing a different gradual process of disintegration through compulsive handling. Doubling the image evokes the process and its mysterious fugitiveness – the never satisfied desire to possess the thing and its image.
